Our association in now over six decades old. It has not only nurtured out and produced several eminent personalities who have distinguished and excelled themselves. The unique characteristic of our association is that people from, different fields and professions such as advocates, chartered accountants, income tax practitioners and tax practitioners have all joined hands and are on its roll under one roof. They enjoy and they have great compatibility amongst themselves. We have good relationship with other district bars.
Our association which started with a very limited number grew slowly and steadily. At present the membership is a little over 250. Perhaps you would be happy to know that it is the second biggest Tax Bar in Northern India. We have a long list of patron members and life members who have put in considerable years of active practice. We have very strong traditions and heritage set by stalwarts of our path over 60 years. Their magnanimity has made them milestones. We salute pillars of our Bar for their guidance, sincerity and devotions. The Income Tax Bar Association, Lucknow
have produced several renowned stalwarts and is well known for it’s unity and devotion of service. Some of our members who have brought laurels to our association in the past are Late Sri V.N. Joshi, Sri A. N. Mehrotra,
Sri L. D. Seth, Sri R. C. Bhalla, Dr. R.M.Lall, Sri C. B. Lal to name a few and have made their own mark in profession.
Of the present, Shri M. P. Singh, Shri R. L. Chopra, Sri Munna Lal Agarwal, Shri P. N. Dhown Sri S.D.Sethand Sri R.K.Sabharwal have held important posts in different instituitions and carry their own weight. His Excellency Hon’ble Mr. Syed Sibtey Razi, is presently the Governor of Jharkhand. Hon’ble Sri Satish Chandra Mishra, Member Rajya Sabha, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Udai Krishna Dhaon, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rakesh Sharma, are presently adorning the Allahbad High Court, Lucknow Bench and were members of the Income Tax Bar Association , Lucknow till their elevation. Sri Virendra Bhatia has been the Advocate General and a member of Parliament. Sri R. N. Trivedi has been the Addl. Advocate General and Addl. Solicitor General. Sri Prakash Narain adorned the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal for more than two decades. Two of our great pillars Shri R.A. Shankhdhar and Sri Om Prakash Tewari both of them apart from being devoted to the profession, are also well connected to public causes and enjoy tremendous respect. Free, frank and fearless, they all have contributed generously towards the profession.
Senior active members like ShriS. C. Suri, Sri S.C.Agarwal, Sri S.K. Kohli, Sri K.K.Khanna, Sri Prashant Kapse, Sri Jeewanji Mehrotra, Sri Rohit Bhalla have made their own mark. Our senior members have always encouraged the youngsters to come forward. We have a long line of second generation who have not only inherited practice, but have expanded manifold trying to keep up the good work following the footsteps of the elders. Of the younger members suffice it to say that many of them are government nominees to various financial institutions such as Public Sector Banks and other educational and charitable institutions and command considerable respects.
Some of our members are the authors of various important books on different subjects. Shri K. B. Jindal and Shri V. B. Bhargava have authored books on tax laws.
Our strength lies in our unity which have paved our path of success during these past 60 glorious years. We family believe that coming together is beginning, keeping together is progress and working together is success.
Our association hall is on the ground floor of the main Aayakar Bhavan at 5, Ashok Marg, Lucknow and is finely equipped with a well stocked library. One of our senior most past president Late Sri V. N. Joshi’s entire collection of library consisting of Income Tax Report and other important books were donated jointly by their son and nephew namely Sri Shrikant Joshi and Sri Prashant Kapse for the benefit of the members at the Bar Association situated at Income Tax Appellatte Tribunal at PICUP Bhawan , Gomti Nagar, Lucknow. The library at the Ayakar Bhawan is also very well equipped and several additions have been made thereafter. It is rich and we are proud of it.
Our association is a registered body having its own rules and regulations, bye-laws and it operates through various committees appointed for specific purposes. Our activities consist of regularly organizing seminars on various subjects on Direct Taxes and holding Study Circle Meetings. Besides this our members are also actively engaged in several social cultural and philanthropic activities.
From time immemorial various luminaries and dignitaries of national fame have participated in the activities of our Bar. To name of few, His Excellency. Hone’ble Shri G.S. Pathak , Vice President of India His Excellency Hon’ble Shri B.Gopala Reddy, Governor of Uttar Pradesh.
Hon’ble Judges of High Courts, Chairman and members of Central Board of Direct Taxes, members of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal have bestowed the Honors on our association by being its guests. They not only participated in the deliberations but took keen and active part in the seminars thus organized. Their presence itself has always been a source of great inspiration encouraging and infusing enthusiasm besides adding feathers to our cap which is always cherished.
Our relationship with the department has always remained cordial. Rather it has glorious history of harmony and excellent understanding. The interaction in not only limited to official working but it extends to social activities such as cultural meets, academics and sports especially organizing cricket matches. We on our part are committed to give our best. The bar has activity participated on all occasions with the department in all its activities as and when the situation arose. Members of the department stationed at Lucknow will safely vouch for the same.
We understand that the bar is the breeding ground for judges. Any fall in the standards in bound to affect judiciary. It is only high standards of learning and ethics both at the bar and at the bench that can help the preservation of the rule of the law.
We celebrated the silver jubilee of our association in the 1972. His Excellency Dr. G. S. Pathak, Vice President of India, was the Chief Guest. The Golden Jubilee was celebrated with great enthusiasm which was inaugurated by Hon’ble Sri S. C. Mishra, Advocate General, U.P. and presently Rajya Sabha member. Both the ceremonies were attended by several senior members on Income Tax Department, renowned legal luminaries who had traveled long distance and members of profession from far flung and near by districts. We have no hesitation to say that they were great and grand occasions. |
